The Size Of The Raise Is A Choice. Larger Raises Need More Folds As Bluffs But Charge Draws More And Build Bigger Pots For Your Value Hands. Smaller Raises Risk Less But Give The Bettor A Better Price To Continue. Whatever Size You Choose, Use It For Your Value Hands And Your Semi Bluffs Alike.

When To Do It

Check-Raise More Against Opponents Who Continuation Bet Too Often, And On Boards That Hit The Checking Player's Range Well, Such As Low, Connected Boards That A Big Blind Defending Range Contains More Of Than A Preflop Raiser's Range Does. Check-Raise Bluff Less Against Opponents Who Rarely Bet Without A Strong Hand, Since Your Bluffs Will Run Into Hands That Do Not Fold.

Think About What Happens Next. After A Check-Raise Is Called, The Pot Is Large And The Stack To Pot Ratio Is Low, So Plan Which Turn Cards You Will Keep Betting And Which You Will Check. A Check-Raise With No Plan For The Turn Often Loses More Than It Wins.
